CAMHS ADHD Assessment
If your child or adolescent is experiencing difficulty, they may be sent for an ADHD assessment by CAMHS. They will usually be asked to bring with them their parent(s)/guardian(s) and a teacher who knows them well.
In response to COVID-19 parents and caregivers' responses to interviews pointed out the positives of remote appointments, while also stating that face-to-face appointments are preferred during assessments.
Symptoms
If your child or young person you know is suffering from ADHD they may have trouble sitting still, forget things, have trouble falling asleep, and are easily distracted by other stimuli. They may also have trouble keeping up with tasks and activities at home or at school, struggling to comprehend information and find it difficult to follow directions. They may lose things and have trouble finishing homework assignments or assignments, and even fail to attend appointments. They may end up hurting themselves or others if not cautious. They may have difficulty with relationships, find it hard to find jobs or jobs, and have trouble getting along with their family.
A few children and adolescents with ADHD are hyperactive. They might fidget or tap their fingers, try to get their turn in activities or unable to stop talking. They may not listen to others and are more likely to engage in risky behaviors like using drugs or engaging in sexual activities that are dangerous. Diagnosis

They can refer you to a specialist CAMHS team that will evaluate your child and determine if they are suffering from ADHD.
If your child has been sent to the CAMHS ADHD Assessment Service and is referred to the CAMHS ADHD Assessment Service, they will be viewed by at least one member of the team. They will also ask the caregivers or parents of the child as well as a teacher who knows them well for feedback. The team will use standard assessment techniques and detailed history taking to assess your child's difficulties. Rotherham CAMHS is split into different pathways and the "ADHD assessment pathway" falls within the Neurodevelopmental Assessment pathway. However, some children and young people will undergo their ADHD assessment done through the Intellectual Disability CAMHS pathway. This is due to the fact that they have an elevated cognitive ability and their difficulties are more complex than those of other children and young people who are using CAMHS. Treatment

National guidelines3 and local plans for transformation4 emphasize the importance of early identification and evaluation of children and adolescents with ADHD. However, there are no explicit guidelines for how long they should wait.

This has allowed the average number of weeks from the date of referral until the date of the ADHD assessment feedback to be lowered. The project involved 12 participants who had been referred recently to the CAMHS ADHD pathway within a local Trust. Interviews were semi-structured and conducted over the phone. The City and Hackney ADHD Team recently implemented a project to improve the quality of service and reduce waiting times. The team conducted a survey of service users throughout the assessment process and identified the most important themes that helped inform improvements to the path. For example, service users felt that the length of the assessment was too long and that there was not enough support on providing postassessment support. They also would like to see more specific support for families and children who have been diagnosed with ADHD.
Following the QI project, the wait times from initial referral to ADHD evaluation have been reduced significantly. This is in line with trust-level goals and reflects the emphasis on improving efficiency and capacity across the CAMHS system. The team used a change model and Plan-Do–Study–Act cycles to effect positive changes in the ADHD process.
A diagnosis of ADHD could also assist in getting an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) for your child.
